One of the transformational approaches I love working with is Aura-Soma®. I discovered it while living in Boston when buying a book for a friend at a local Whole Foods Market. After scanning the shelves and finding a gift for her, I was drawn to another book with a beautiful, colorful cover. As I read the back cover summary, I felt like the book had been written for me. It was the start of my experience with Aura-Soma®.

That book purchase was followed by finding a teacher, experiencing my first consultation, and attending the level one training. My journey with this amazing color system has been profound on many levels. From the people I have met, to the personal transformations I have undergone, along with the travel adventures while attending classes across the US and Europe, I have uncovered a myriad of new learnings over the course of 20 years.

Aura-Soma® as noted on the https://www.aura-soma.com/en website is “a system of colour, plant and crystal energies that enhance happiness and vitality”. I love sharing it with interested clients and seeing what insights are in store for them as well. A few months ago, I decided to participate in a new online training called The 21 Keys of Aura-Soma®. As with all my Aura-Soma® experiences, it has led to some amazing awarenesses, one of which is connected to the color turquoise.

One of the meanings of turquoise is individuation – a process by which we become an individual and discover our own uniqueness. For some this journey is straightforward. They seem to know exactly who they are and what they want to do from a young age. For others, the journey is built on having a unique gift such as a musical talent or a brilliant mind.  Sometimes the journey is shaped by an event such as a tragedy or life-altering encounter.

Yet while for some the path is straightforward, for many the personal individuation journey unfolds and evolves through many twists and turns that are unplanned, unpredictable, and unexpected.

Sometimes those twists and turns are created by self-doubt or fears. Other times they evolve from the need to search for what’s wrong or what we feel is missing. For some, those twists and turns are driven by becoming chameleons; shifting to meet the expectations of others about who we are, what we should do, and how capable we are.

While the twists and turns lead us to a clearer sense of who we truly are, the expectations of others, frequently in the form of comparisons, can lead us away from our true selves. How many of us have heard from parents, bosses, and others one of the following:

  • Have you considered applying for an easier job or school?
  • Why can’t you be more like “that other person”?
  • You don’t really meet our standards (don’t measure up)?
  • Do you really think you could ever write a book, get a job at that company?
  • Your friend is so nice; you could take a lesson from him/her.

How many people have given up on their dreams after listening to the opinions of others rather than following their inner guidance and sense of knowing?  Who has lost their sense of self, choosing to mold to how others see them – then feeling like they don’t fit in or don’t belong? Who has internalized the comparisons they heard from others, and unconsciously perfected their inner critic in the process?

Rather than listening to the voices of others, consider this idea – your path is your path. What right does someone else have to judge it, compare it, criticize it, or devalue it? While feedback is important for growth, honoring yourself is fundamental to finding the truth of who you are.

If you are questioning your path, listening to the feedback of others while ignoring your inner voice, or are the recipient of insidious or malignant comparisons, please contact me for a complimentary coaching conversation. Transformational approaches including Aura-Soma® are a great way to uncover hidden patterns that keep you from finding a balanced sense of self.
